What's a BINKY?

A binky is a homemade blanket that can be sewn, knitted, crocheted or quilted.  They range in size from 3 feet square up to twin bed size.  (Sometimes we get requests for smaller binkies, 2' x 2' for our little Preemie babies, stroller size and our Binky Angels.)

All patterns are acceptable, as long as they are soft, washable and can make it through the dryer on high; since most shelters and hospitals don't take the time for "special care" washing.  Please use a 3/8" to 1/2" seam allowance to ensure the stability through tough washings.  We heard of a recent incident where a child stuffed batting up her nose and started to choke.  Double check fringe on crocheted binkies and seams on sewn, quilted ones.

BINKIES MUST BE FROM SMOKE FREE HOMES. 
Too many people are sensitive to smoke and second-hand smoke. PLEASE treat your blankets for smoke with one of these ideas before you send them or deliver them to a Binky Patrol chapter:

Area Coordinators ordering in bulk, please mail us multiple stamps based on your needs.  We must mail large quantities to you in special envelopes that we already have.  We order them by the roll.  One roll has 1600 labels.  $23, includes postage.  1/2 Rolls available..

When you have your binkies made you have a few options:

• You can give your binkies to a local chapter (see the pullown menu at the top for our current list of active chapters).
• If there isn't a local chapter, you may mail them to the nearest chapter or to Binky Patrol HQ in California:

• Or, you can simply take our inspiration and lead -- just make blankets and find a local area shelter or hospital or agency to give them to.  You don't have to be a member of Binky Patrol to do this.  If you choose this option, we're glad that we inspired you and wish you well as you help to comfort the children and teens in your area.
