Welcome to the Quincy, Illinois Binky Patrol Chapter Area Coordinator: Sarah Rushton
Our 2007 Bink-A-Thon was a great success!
Our Bink-A-Thon collected 56 blankets - 18 the day of the Bink-A-Thon and 38 beforehand. Thank you to all the volunteers and to the Quincy Public Library! Sincerely, Sarah Rushton Quincy chapter director ![]() ![]() BAT 2004 was a success! Thank you to all who contributed to the 2004 Bink-A-Thon. As a group, we Special thanks: Quincy Mall--We are very grateful for being allowed to occupy prominent Quincy Quilter's Guild--Once again, the Quilters came through, making and McDonald's of Quincy--We can't produce blankets if we're all starving. Thanks Bink-A-Thon 2002 What a huge success! We had between 10 and 20 people working through the day to reach our goal of 82 blankets (one more than last year). We surpassed our goal, and by quite a few: the 2002 total is 97! Many of our volunteers who could not come and stay to help dropped off mostly-completed blankets for us to add to the pile. Some others concentrated on obtaining pledges. What a wonderful group effort! Many thanks go to the Quincy Mall who allowed us to take over the JCPenney courtyard for the day, and to McDonald's of Quincy who provided us with food and drinks. We're already looking forward to next year! 1. Choose material. I've made several with polar fleece (does not ravel). I prefer two pieces with contrasting patterns, but they must be the same size. Other materials needed: yarn or floss, tapestry needle, ruler, and scissors. 2. Wash material. When dry, place wrong sides together and tack so materials do not move. Cut "fringe" at edges every 1"; (to do this, cut 3" into material). When finished, tie square knots with top and bottom layers all around binky. Yarn or floss tie blanket together at regular intervals. (See pictures below...) This is a great project for young children (an adult should cut the fringe) or for those who do not sew.
Working with Noah's Ark Preschool Again this holiday season, our local chapter worked with Noah's Ark Preschool of All Saints School in Quincy to make blankets for less fortunate children. All four classes of preschoolers made blankets. Below is a picture of (l.-r.) Angelica, Kay-Leigh, and Madison in front of their blanket, made by Mrs. Smith's 4 yr. A.M. class.
