Our 2008 Bink-A-Thon was a great success!

Thank you to a very talented 9-year-old seamstress named Emily, who sewed three very nice blankets at the library, and the other chapter members who dropped off 15 more Binkies.  All of the Binkies will be donated to youngsters in our region.

Thank you to everyone who made Binkies and donated their time and effort to help provide comfort to children in need.

For more information about the Binky Patrol, ways to help, or if you are interested in volunteering, please contact:

All volunteers are welcome and greatly appreciated!

Our 2007 Bink-A-Thon was a great success!

Our Bink-A-Thon collected 56 blankets - 18 the day of the Bink-A-Thon and 38 beforehand.  Thank you to all the volunteers and to the Quincy Public Library!

Sincerely,
Sarah Rushton

 BAT 2004 was a success!

Thank you to all who contributed to the 2004 Bink-A-Thon.  As a group, we
were able to compile a total of 86 blankets, which is better than 2003.  Many
blankets have already been distributed to local agencies.

Special thanks:

Quincy Mall--We are very grateful for being allowed to occupy prominent
space inside the Mall.  It's great exposure for us, and a wonderful facility!

Quincy Quilter's Guild--Once again, the Quilters came through, making and
donating 13 beautiful quilts to add to our total!  Thank you!

McDonald's of Quincy--We can't produce blankets if we're all starving.  Thanks
to McDonald's for not only donating our lunch, but also for *delivering* it so we
didn't even have to leave the building!

Bink-A-Thon 2002

What a huge success!  We had between 10 and 20 people working through the day to reach our goal of 82 blankets (one more than last year).  We surpassed our goal, and by quite a few:  the 2002 total is 97!  Many of our volunteers who could not come and stay to help dropped off mostly-completed blankets for us to add to the pile.  Some others concentrated on obtaining pledges.  What a wonderful group effort!  Many thanks go to the Quincy Mall who allowed us to take over the JCPenney courtyard for the day, and to McDonald's of Quincy who provided us with food and drinks.  We're already looking forward to next year!

Easy NO-SEW Binky

1.  Choose material.  I've made several with polar fleece (does not ravel).  I prefer two pieces with contrasting patterns, but they must be the same size.  Other materials needed:  yarn or floss, tapestry needle, ruler, and scissors.

2.  Wash material.  When dry, place wrong sides together and tack so materials do not move.  Cut "fringe" at edges every 1"; (to do this, cut 3" into material).  When finished, tie square knots with top and bottom layers all around binky.  Yarn or floss tie blanket together at regular intervals.  (See pictures below...)

This is a great project for young children (an adult should cut the fringe) or for those who do not sew.

Working with Noah's Ark Preschool

Again this holiday season, our local chapter worked with Noah's Ark Preschool of All Saints School in Quincy to make blankets for less fortunate children.  All four classes of preschoolers made blankets.  Below is a picture of (l.-r.) Angelica, Kay-Leigh, and Madison in front of their blanket, made by Mrs. Smith's 4 yr. A.M. class.

Currently we have 30+ volunteers of varying ages and skill levels.  All are welcome to join and help out in any capacity!

We serve Quincy, IL and surrounding areas.

Bink-A-Thon -
Nationwide Blanket Drive to make as many as possible.
Sat. 10/27, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. -   Quincy Mall at JCPenney courtyard

BAT 2001The Quincy, IL chapter of Binky Patrol was very busy on October 27.  When we decided to participate in the National Bink-A-Thon, our goal was 27 completed binkies:  one more than last year.  But by the end of the day, we'd completed 81 total, much more than we'd expected.

In addition to our normal volunteers, we had a group from the Quincy Quilters Guild, members of a 4-H group, and some students from Quincy Notre Dame High School helping out.  Working together, we made a tremendous difference.  (So much so that I had a hard time packing all of the binkies in my car!)

Our goal for next year is simple:  82 blankets, and pledges per binkies made.

Personally, I'd like to thank all who helped in any way.  We're looking forward to the next BAT! I will be dreaming of binkies." - Debbie Shierling
