New Chapter as of August 25, 2019
Brandi Bierdemann, Area Coordinator
Hello my name is Brandi Bierdemann and have started a local Arizona Chapter of Binky Patrol.
I first discovered about this charity from my probation officer Devin Thomson. He suggested this type of community service to me, because it is a really good cause but also since I had so many community service hours I had to complete in a short period of time.
I am currently disabled and can not complete a large amount of physical tasks, and need as much assistance as possible. I fell deeply in love with the concept of helping out the local youth that are currently struggling with traumatic events that is happening in their day to day lives.
I want to be able to help provide comfort to our innocent at risk youth that don't deserve what they are being put through. I contacted Binky Patrol myself and Susan Finch founder/creator of Binky Patrol got back to me the very next day. In her email she said that there wasn't a local chapter, and if I was interested in creating one of my own that I can apply for the position of Area Coordinator, so I sent in my information. In the email they stated that they only look at applications once a month.
At that moment I felt so defeated, but I didn't get my hopes up and continued to send out my application hoping to get the responds I wanted. I did, however, receive the answer I was praying for. I never thought I would actually be blessed with this wonderful opportunity to actually contribute to my community, not only kids in need but also going through some of the same experience that I lived through.
The best part of helping out locally is being able to observe the changes that we are bound to make and that means so much to me because to often it is the exact opposite of that goal that I have seen in my life.(not from me but just in general). I hope to inspire the future generations to spark that change and to keep it moving foreword and to stay positive for without sadness we would not know joy. (sorry, wiping tears away) I'm so honored to be given the chance to make a commitment to my community and have my service really mean something. I will be done with my hours long before I'm done with Binky Patrol. I have less then 4 months on probation but I have signed on for, at the very least, one year as the Area Coordinator for the Arizona Chapter of Binky Patrol.
So today I am asking your help.
I am pretty great and super amazing but I can't do this all on my own. (Note from Susan Finch - I wholeheartedly agree with thsi statement!) I am going to need some help from other epic people.
Making blankets for babies and kids in need is very time consuming and that is fine with me because I'm currently disabled I currently have no income and well my savings is around the same amount.
We issue tax deductible receipts for any donations received. if supplies are bought we would really appreciate the receipt or a gift receipt with only those items on it. We can also accept blankets as long as you've made them from the hears and from a non smoking environment.
We make fleece, quilt, and knitted blanks and they should be 36x36 inches all the way up to twin size. there are other sizes and specs as well as patterns that I would be more then happy to give out. (just contact me email, call, or text me). There is a ton of information on this website too.
I will need volunteers for other jobs and we will be hosting events later into the year. I'm going to update the web page soon so that anyone that is not ready to get involved yet.
If I made a list of some of the supplies that are needed it would include the following items:
- circular knitting neddles (size 11 (8.0) are the easiest to use)
- wool-acrylic blend yarn (medium-weight preferred grade)
- tapestry needle
- stitch markers
- stitch holders
- cloth measuring tape.
- Fabric (even scraps will help)
- sewing machine(new or used)
- crochet hooks
- new homemade baby fleece blankets (unfortunately they have to be new because we are dealing with some sick children and do not want any allergens)
- sizes of blankets are 36’’x36’’ all the way up to twin size
- we make fleece, knitted, and quilted blankets
- Volunteers! We are always grateful for anyone who is interested in helping make blankets. These are great projects for scout groups, birthday parties or family gatherings.
Contact me today to see how you can help!
Thank you.
